On Monday 21st May 2012 a team of Solicitors and Trainee Solicitors from Hanne & Co left their office desks to participate in the London Legal Walk to raise money for the London Legal Support Trust. Starting and finishing at the Royal Courts of Justice on The Strand; the London Legal Walk is a 10km sponsored walk around some of London ’s famous landmarks. With over 5,000 walkers it is one of the largest annual gatherings of Lawyers in the world! There were teams from various law firms all over London and Greater London taking part as well as employees from Local Authorities and in-house legal departments. The weather on Monday was perfect for walking; glorious sunshine with a cool breeze and the Hanne & Co team crossed the finish line in a very respectable time of just under two hours.
The London Legal Support Trust works to support law centres and legal advice agencies based in London and the South East who offer free legal advice to those in desperate need who cannot afford to pay. These agencies make a significant difference to people’s lives by assisting young people in poverty, homeless people, trafficked women and children, those with mental illnesses & disabled people needing community care. However, they rely on charitable donations, legal aid funding and local authority grants in order to provide their services. Lawyers and caseworkers in legal advice centres have taken pay cuts and reduced working conditions to maintain the services. Still though, during 2011 legal advice agencies closed at the rate of one per month due to funding cuts. The funds raised by the London Legal Walk can prevent that from happening again in 2012.
Hanne & Co are strong supporters of the work of the Legal Support Trust and it is fundraising events such as the London Legal Walk that raise money to support our much needed local law centres.
We would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped us raise money for this event. Well done to our team of Hanne & Co Walkers: Harry Dronfield (Employment & Commercial Law), Michael Brierley (Child Care Department), Lorna Cservenka (Child Care Department), Lorna West (Crime), Amy Walker (Family Law), Victoria Jones (Family Law), Alice Mathams (Family Law) & Isadora (Housing Law) for taking part in this great event!
