The Event provided an insight into what it means to be a ‘women in law’ by exploring the experiences of a panel of female solicitors. We heard from Francesca Kaye (Commercial Litigation Partner) from Russell-Cooke LLP, Eileen Pembridge (Senior Family Law Solicitor) from Bishop & Sewell, Jessica Standley (Personal Injury Associate) from Slater & Gordon Lawyers and our very own Grainne Fahy (Family Law Partner) from Hanne & Co.
The panel members discussed how they entered the legal profession after obtaining qualifications from a variety of universities. The panel members discussed how through hard work and determination they progressed in their legal careers. The panel members also discussed how they juggled being a wife and mother, including the benefits of part-time and flexible working.
Whilst this was interesting and encouraging to hear, what stood out was that the panel members did not consider themselves to have faced difficulty as a ‘women in law’. The question therefore asked was why we needed a ‘Women in Law’ event. Why were we not attending a ‘Solicitors in Law’ event instead?
